Frequently asked questions

Everything international patients ask us before traveling to China — answered honestly. Can't find your question? Ask us directly — we reply within 24 hours.

Planning your trip

Which hospitals in China can you arrange appointments with?

We work with 200+ partner hospitals at Grade 3A level — China's highest hospital accreditation — in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Xi'an, and other major cities. During your consultation, we recommend specific hospitals and specialists based on your condition, preferences, and budget.

How far in advance should I plan my medical trip to China?

For health checkups and wellness programs, 2–4 weeks is usually enough. For specialist consultations, allow 4–6 weeks. For major treatment or surgery, allow 6–10 weeks, including record review and visa processing. If your situation is urgent, contact us immediately — we will give you an honest assessment of what can realistically be arranged.

Can you help me get a medical visa (M visa) or invitation letter?

Yes. We issue an official invitation letter and provide step-by-step guidance for your visa application, including for companions traveling with you. Depending on your nationality, China also offers visa-free entry or visa-free transit options — we monitor current entry policies as your trip approaches.

Can my family member or companion come with me?

Absolutely — most of our patients travel with a companion. We arrange family-friendly hotels, extra transfers, and visa guidance for your companion, and keep them informed throughout your treatment (with your consent).

Costs & payment

How much does medical treatment in China cost?

Leading Chinese hospitals typically charge 40–70% less than hospitals in the US or Western Europe for comparable procedures. Exact costs depend on the hospital, department, and treatment plan. We provide a written, itemized estimate — separating hospital fees from our service fee — before you commit to anything.

What payment methods are accepted in China?

Hospitals accept cash (CNY), international credit cards at many major hospitals, and mobile payments such as WeChat Pay and Alipay — both of which can be linked to international cards. Payment is normally made directly to the hospital during your visit, and your escort assists with every payment step.

What if I need to change or cancel my trip?

We understand medical situations change. Hospital appointment changes are usually possible with advance notice, and hotel bookings are subject to each hotel's policy. Every change and cancellation condition is explained upfront, in writing, before you pay anything.

Medical care & day-to-day support

Do I need to speak Chinese to receive care in China?

No. A bilingual coordinator accompanies you to every appointment, interprets consultations and examinations, and translates prescriptions, discharge summaries, and reports into English for you and your doctor at home.

Do you provide airport pickup outside of Beijing and Shanghai?

Yes. Airport pickup and transfers are available in all cities where we have partner hospitals, including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Xi'an, and more. Your driver tracks your flight and meets you at arrivals with a sign bearing your name — delays are never a problem.

What happens if there is a medical emergency during my stay?

If you experience a medical emergency, call China's emergency number 120 (ambulance) immediately, and contact your coordinator's 24/7 line. We assist with hospital admission and communication with the medical team.

Please note that MedBridge China provides coordination services — emergency medical care is provided by licensed hospital teams.
